The story/plot is to me, very secondary to the pictures - though I do like that there is a story behind them (and therefore not just a picture of a vampire, or a ghost etc). Marquise's tale is, to me, the strangest of the three in this volume, and Favoles the saddest.
I can never decide with these books by Victoria Frances if the stories came to her first and her pictures merely matched, or whether she painted the pictures came first and formed the story. Thus, it becomes an illustrated novel divided in three chapters, a style of book that is popular among the general public. So I do not recommend the book for someone looking for something to read.įavole is a very beautiful illustrated book that joins this trend in a really original way, combining illustrations with texts full of poetry. In fact, I think maybe the art helped me get through the book itself. It's full of beautiful lines and metaphors, but I can't say I enjoyed the writing.
